      "To the King's most Excellent Majesty in Council.
      The humble petition of James Macdonald, merchant of Porterie in the Isle of Skye and Normand Macdonald of Slate in the said Island, for themselves and on behalf of Hugh Macdonald, Edmund McQueen, John Betton andAlexander McQueen of Slate. The Rev. Mr. William McQueen and AlexanderMacdonald of the Isle of Skye and county of Inverness, most humblyshoweth; That your petitioners have had in view to form a settlement forthemselves and families in your Majesty's Province of North Carolina,have, for some time been making disposition for that purpose by engagingservants and disposing of their effect in this country. And being nowready to embark and carry their intentions into execution, in which theymost humbly pray your Majesty will be graciously pleased to grant untoyour petitioners 40,000 acres of land in the certain Province of NorthCarolina upon the terms and conditions which has been usual to give suchgrants, or as your Majesty which seems proper.
